To ship or not to ship?

We have all planned a vacation and thought “should I bring my bike?” It would be nice to ride while you are away from home however some key factors tend to scare people away from doing so. We see so many bike frames and components get damaged due to being mishandled while in transit. I don’t think there are many worse ways to start a vacation. Hardshell travel cases are up to $1200 and typically are less ideal for some bikes that require a certified bike guru that minored in Tetris to get everything safely in the box without wasting hours. How many times a year do you have to travel to make a case like that worth the money? Where do you store the desk sized box the other 350 days per year? Let’s jump to the other side of the bike transportation spectrum. The cardboard box. Every local bike shop has them stashed in the back from new bike deliveries. 99% of the time they get tossed into the bin. Most shops will be happy to have a rider take one off of their hands. Bike boxes are just small enough to be easy to ship, while also not being so crammed that you have to fight to get the bike to fit. The cardboard box does have some shortcomings though. The primary one being stability of the side walls. If a bike box gets impacted or laid on its side, there is little keeping the middle of the box from collapsing causing damage to your frame. We are currently working on an inexpensive and easy to use product that will elevate the classic cardboard bike box and drastically lower your risk of bike damage during transit. Travelling with your bike shouldn’t be unnecessarily expensive or stressful. Stay tuned for more to come!
